WCC NEWS - WCC will host consultation on evangelism and formation in Latin America

The World Council of Churches, in partnership with Centro Evangélico de Misiología Andino Amazónica, will host a Consultation on Evangelism in Theological Education and Missiological Formation In Latin America. A young representative from Latin America pictured at a moment of prayer during the WCC central committee in Geneva, June 2023, Photo: Albin Hillert/WCC 20 September 2023 The consultation, to be held in Lima, Peru, from 11-16 October, will aim at providing the space for a constructive dialogue on the challenges, new possibilities, and potential cooperation among faculties and networks in different Latin American contexts with regard to evangelism in theological education and training. The World Council of Churches has a long history of supporting mission and evangelism through different programmatic areas and in particular through the work of the Commission on World Mission and Evangelism. It is hoped that the consultation will instigate cross-South America channels of interdenominational cooperation for the promotion of Christian witness. In particular, it will provide opportunities to discuss, analyze, and arrive at a comprehensive assessment of the new mission context in Latin America and its implications for the existing evangelistic training and formation. Emerging challenges will be identified in an attempt to explore ways and means to overcome them, through action-oriented proposals.
