Ted Esler. Ph.D. President, Missio Nexus Dear Ministry Partner,  Missions within the church in North America has been changing rapidly and 2020 only served to increase the rate of change. But what mission will look like and what mission will be forced to look like are topics of passionate discussion.    On Medical Missions Live over the past 10 months we have been privileged to speak with very well-known authors including Bob Lupton who wrote Toxic Charity and Charity Detox and Peter Greer whose best-selling books include Mission Drift and Rooting for Rivals about their perspectives on how missions are changing as we move into the 21st century.   On Tuesday February 2nd we have the opportunity to talk with another international leader about how church ministries, denominations and mission agencies are changing and what is going to be the future for anyone interested in sharing the Gospel. We are very honored to have Ted Esler, Ph.D., President of Missio Nexus join us. Missio Nexus is the largest association of Great Commission churches and organizations in North America. This is an organization representing over 30,000 evangelical missionaries deployed around the world and including more than 200 agencies and churches.    Ted was a church planter in Sarajevo Bosnia during the 90’s, and in 2000, became the Canadian director of Pioneers and then was asked to join the leadership team of Pioneers USA. In 2015 he was appointed the President of Missio Nexus. Integrating Faith and Medicine - Reenergizing Medical Missions

On Tuesday, December 1, we are honored to be able to meet with our very good friend and colleague Dr. Jim Ritchie, a medical missionary at Chogoria Mission Hospital in Kenya.   Dr. Ritchie shared recently how important it is in medical missions to have a solid biblical understanding of healing, illness and death. Equal to this as a health worker is the need to grasp the biblical dynamic between the role of Christian medics and God's sovereign role over all. Both of these things are essential as we pray forward through sustainable health care.    Jim has extensive global medicine experience, including serving at Chogoria Mission Hospital in rural Kenya through World Gospel Mission, since 2014. He has a deep interest in the theology of healing, illness and death, along with preventing moral injury and burnout among medical missionaries. While in Kenya he helped start a Christian Family Medicine residency program and has just graduated the second class of residents. Important to our discussion is that during his tenure the hospital has seen a renewed dedication to its core spiritual mission.   Also in his background is 25 years of service in the U.S. Navy. He was deployed twice to the war in Afghanistan, at the beginning in 2001 and during the Surge in 2009/10. A frequent speaker at the Pentagon, he was Emergency Medicine Residency director for seven years, and on the teaching faculty for 12 years, with numerous teaching and mentoring awards. An interesting bit of personal trivia about Jim is that two of his former residents have become Physician to the President, one was Physician to Congress and one is now Medical Officer of the Marine Corps, Rear Admiral Jim Hancock.    This is a discussion you do not want to miss. Join us on Tuesday night, December 1, 2020, at 8 pm Eastern / 7 pm Central / 5 pm Pacific. The Importance of Family Medicine Residencies and Their Role in the Future of Medical Missions

Dear Ministry Partner, On Tuesday, November 17th, we will have the great pleasure of interviewing Dr. John Crouch and Dr. Chris Place from In His Image Family Medicine Residency in Tulsa, OK. Dr. Crouch is the Executive Director Emeritus, and Dr. Place is the Associate Residency Director.    The In His Image Family Medicine Residency Program is uniquely focused on serving God and using medicine as a ministry. In His Image International (IHII) envisions the nations transformed through family medicine, education and healthcare. For over 30 years, In His Image physicians have used medicine to bring hope to those in desperate need.  Over 290 doctors have graduated from IHI.  About 15% of IHI graduates are currently serving as long-term global health workers and another 10% are serving in Indian Health Service and other underserved populations in the U.S. Most who live in the US are actively involved in domestic or short-term international health outreach, and many are involved in medical education as part of their careers. Dr. Place, a 1998 IHI grad and ten-plus year missionary to Macau, is now Director of International FM Residency Programs. As a critical strategy for the future, IHI believes that international family medicine residency training is essential for developing medical ministry and is currently partnering with family medicine residency training programs in Afghanistan, China, Egypt and Kazakhstan.   Both of these leaders have extensive professional involvement in medicine internationally and have a deep understanding of where medical missions are today and where they are headed in the future.    This is a discussion you do not want to miss. Join us on Tuesday night, November 17, 2020, at 8 pm Eastern / 7 pm Central / 5 pm Pacific. A Unique Perspective on Global Missions

Our guest this week is Doug Fountain, Executive Director of CCIH, Christian Connections for International Health, a Washington DC-based organization. CCIH works to connect a network of Christian agencies and individuals in the global health field to share ideas and best practices, pray together, join in fellowship and form a collective voice to speak up for those without a voice.  Previous to his role at CCIH, Doug served as Vice President for Strategy and Impact for Medical Teams International and was also formerly on the executive staff at Uganda Christian University. In 2004, Doug was head of the Department of Health Sciences and later fulfilled the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Development and External Relations. He holds an MPA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.S. in Political Science and Economics from the University of Oregon. You can see why Doug is one of the most highly recognized authorities on global health from a Christian perspective.
