Moments of crisis, like today’s particular and potent social conflicts and divisions, throw us back on our founding documents and on the ultimate sources of our thought and values for reorientation to the world. The Bible, and the book of Genesis in particular, is the bedrock of these sources. For all those where Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have taken root and for Western civilization itself, Genesis contains the founding stories that define culture, that shape its thought, and that found its values.
