Minute for Mission: World Community Day

November 5, 2021

World Community Day began in 1943 as a day for church women across denominations to study peace. After World War II, leaders of denominations felt that they should set aside a day for prayer and ecumenical study. The leaders thought that while many denominations were performing peace and justice work by themselves, having a day when they could study together would be beneficial to all. The theme for this year’s World Community Day is “New Places, New Faces at the Table.” As Christians, we are called to nurture and cultivate life-giving community — within our families, our churches and throughout God’s world. So let us extend welcome in love and mutual respect.

Resources for World Community Day are available from Church Women United. Write to 5 Penn Plaza, 19th Floor, New York, NY 10001; email info@churchwomenunitedinc@gmail.com; call 212-835-1507; or visit churchwomenunited.net/store.
