WCC NEWS: WCC Commission on World Mission and Evangelism plans assembly contributions

In an online meeting on 4-5 and 8-9 March, the World Council of Churches Commission on World Mission and Evangelism (CWME) reflected on the impact of COVID-19, approved an 18-month study process with a centenary celebration of the International Missionary Council, and planned for its contributions to the WCC 11th Assembly in 2022.  WCC Commission on World Mission and Evangelism, online meeting on 4-5 and 8-9 March 2021. Photo: WCC  11 March 2021 The commission will meet once more before the assembly. The CWME Working Groups and EDAN introduced their study papers to the meeting, which unanimously approved them. The Working Group on Transforming Discipleship presented the study paper Converting Discipleship: Dissidence and Metanoia. The working group also presented its proposal for an ecumenical conversation for the Assembly on the theme “Walking Together Hand in Hand: Evangelism and Justice – exploring theology and practice for mission and evangelism in an unjust world”. The Working Group on Mission from the Margins presented its study paper Reimagining Mission from the Margins as well as a proposal for an ecumenical conversation on “Dreaming a New future: A call from the Margins.” The Working Group on Theology for Mission introduced to the meeting its study paper, Missiological exploration on the 2022 WCC Assembly theme, “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity.” The group also presented its proposal for an ecumenical conversation on the theme of “Mission Reimagined: Transforming disciples challenging empire,” which aims to engage with assembly participants to express their thoughts for the post-assembly work of the ecumenical mission movement. The EDAN (Ecumenical Disability Advocates Network) presented a study paper on The Gift of Being - Called to be A Church of All and for All which looks at the realities of disability experience as interpreted from the perspective of creation, making the notion of human creatureliness central to theological reflections on impairment and disability. A proposal for an ecumenical conversation for the Assembly was also presented to the commission on the theme “The Gift of Being: A Church of All and For All – inclusion and full participation of persons with disabilities in ministry and mission.”   See more
