Fifth Sunday in Lent

Jeremiah 31: 31-34
The New Covenant

The birth of a child is a new and exciting time. This January my 1st  granddaughter came into the world, open to new beginnings. In this section of Jeremiah the people of Israel are looking to a new beginning. In verse 31 “A New Covenant” is promised by the Lord. In verse 33, the Lord writes “The New Covenant” on their hearts. In Hebrews 8, the writer talks about how we have abandoned our covenant to care for God’s creation. Verse 10 states that God will put his laws on their minds and have it written on their hearts to care for his creation.

As the birth of “The New Covenant”  comes into view, let’s show how important creation is to us as Christians. Caring for the planet Earth for the next generation of Christians is “The New Covenant”  written on our hearts. The restoration of Israel and the reconciled spirit of the people of Jeremiah are an example of how we as Christians should view our “New Covenant” with nature. Remembering that the Planet Earth is God’s gift to us and it’s up to is to take care of it.

Loving God, Help us to keep your covenant to care for your creation written on our hearts. Remind us that new birth is a new start to make the planet a better place for all of God’s Creation. Amen
