Presbyterians for Earth Care - Offset Your Holiday Travel & Signup for Daily Bilingual Advent Devotion

Holiday Season: A Time to Be Mindful of Responsible Travel Will you or family travel over the holidays?  If so, you have an opportunity to counterbalance carbon emissions created by your mode of transportation (car, plane, train, bus) by contributing to the Presbyterian Tree Fund. For more information, visit the PCUSA website HERE.  While the Tree Fund isn’t an exact carbon offset, you can use a carbon calculator, such as the Berkeley calculator to estimate your travel gift. Many people travel for the holidays. Your gift to the Presbyterian Tree Fund will help counter climate change and help protect our planet for those you love.

WEBINAR RECORDINGS & RESOURCES FOR THE HOLIDAYS Sustainable Holidays: Celebrating Christmas with a Focus on Earth Care Our Nov. 14th webinar presentation discussed the ecological issue of world-wide deforestation, what we can do about it, and ways to lessen our impact on the earth.  A special focus was given to One Tree Planted’s updated list of 15 ways to celebrate the holidays with more of a focus on caring for our natural environment.  We also learned about Presbyterian Hunger Program’s resources for ways to reclaim the holidays.  The recording of the webinar, along with accompanying links and resources, is now available for everyone to view and share as we approach this Advent season with a focus on earth care.  The webinar recording and resources are available by CLICKING HERE. Travel Choices and Our Future: A Transportation Webinar What is the most ecological choice for transportation? For long distances, is it flying, traveling by car, traveling by hybrid, traveling by EV, traveling by motorcycle? Which produces the most greenhouse gas emissions? Which produces the least? What factors contribute to a decision on transportation choices? When can the United States expect to have a mas transportation system available nationwide? This August 24th webinar on transportation covered the answers to these questions and more.  The webinar recording and resources are available by CLICKING HERE.

Promote Creation Care with Your Advent Devotional For the 2023 Advent season, Presbyterians for Earth Care will provide a free daily devotional based on lectionary readings.     Please consider writing a brief meditation. We are emphasizing personal and congregational actions that address Earth Care concerns. The format for each page is a suggested scripture from the lectionary readings, a brief meditation, a simple one or two sentence prayer, and a one-sentence suggested action item. To save space, we simply need the biblical reference; the text itself does not need to be printed out (it will be linked to on the online version of the devotional).   Click here to sign up no later than October 27th.   Personal stories related to creation care and preparing for Christmas are welcome. Advent and creation care related hymns can be quoted, ideally from the Presbyterian Hymnal and Glory to God.  See also Creation Care in Glory to God article and online New Hymns on Creation Care by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette        Your meditation should be about 250-300 words to fit on a half-sheet of paper (5 1/2” x 8 1/2”) with a half inch margin on all sides. PEC will make it available online in a format that your local church can print and share.  Your contribution is needed by Wednesday, November 1st for inclusion in the booklet. We would also welcome original artwork (with permission to use) that reproduces well in black and white for this devotional booklet.  Please contact us with any questions at presbyearthcare@gmail.com.   Remember to sign up HERE by October 27th and submit your devotional by November 1st.   Thank you for your help. Your participation will enrich the Advent season for others and benefit God’s perfect creation.    Webinar Recording & Resources Now Available Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation: Laudate Deum To All People of Good Will on the Climate Crisis Presbyterians for Earth Care presents a free webinar to discuss the new papal document, Apostolic Exhortation Laudate Deum (“Praise God”) of Pope Francis to all people of good will on the Climate Crisis, that was released Wednesday (October 4) as a sequel to Laudato Si and to discuss its importance for churches and God’s creation.  The webinar is hosted by Presbyterians for Earth Care and sponsored by Center for Climate Justice and Faith at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary Date: Tuesday, October 10, 2023 Presenters: William P.
