The Voice of the Martyrs - FIGHTING FEAR: "Lord, don't let them see me shake."

“Lord, don’t let them see me shake.”
James was on his way to deliver Christian materials in a Middle Eastern country when his car’s engine stopped running. He coasted off the road to a spot that seemed less visible, knowing that to be caught with a car full of Christian materials could lead to severe persecution.

As he sat in his car beside the road, James knew he needed divine help. He prayed that God would be his “Great Mechanic” in that moment. At the same time, however, he said he knew that as Christians we cannot let fear prevent us from doing the work to which God has called us.

Hear how God answered James’s prayer, prompting heartfelt worship.

Christian Counseling Associates - Supporting Our Youth: Families Taking a Stand Against Teen Vaping

In recent years, the growing concern surrounding the increased use of vaping among high school students has raised alarm bells among parents, educators, and health officials alike. According to a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in October 2022, the statistics are sobering: approximately 14% of high school students and 3% of middle school students, totaling around 2.5 million students, reported using e-cigarettes in 2022.

This concerning trend highlights the urgent need for parents and professionals to take preventive measures to protect the health and well-being of our youth. DACCA (Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation at Christian Counseling Associates), provides counseling tailored to help teenagers quit vaping and other harmful substances in a family-friendly environment. If you recognize the signs of nicotine use in your teenager, counseling can be a great preventative step.

The rise in vaping among teenagers is a multifaceted issue with far-reaching implications. Vaping devices are often marketed as a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, yet mounting evidence suggests that the long-term health effects of vaping can be equally detrimental. These devices typically contain nicotine, a highly addictive substance that can impair brain development in adolescents, leading to cognitive and behavioral issues. Moreover, the enticing flavors used in vaping liquids can mask the harshness of nicotine, making it even more appealing to young users who might not fully comprehend the risks.

Here at CCA, we understand the challenges young individuals face when trying to break free from addictive habits. We offer specialized counseling through our DACCA program, specifically designed to guide teenagers through the process of quitting vaping and overcoming substance abuse. What sets DACCA apart is its commitment to providing a family-friendly environment, ensuring that both the teenagers and their families receive the necessary support and guidance to navigate this challenging journey together. By addressing the underlying causes and triggers that lead to vaping, DACCA empowers teenagers to make healthier choices and regain control over their lives.

Recognizing the Signs

Recognizing the signs of vaping in teenagers is crucial for early intervention. Parents can play a pivotal role in identifying and addressing vaping habits before they escalate into more serious issues. Here are some key tips for parents to spot potential vaping behaviors:

Unusual Smells: Vaping devices emit distinct odors from the flavored liquids they use. If you notice unusual smells that you cannot attribute to other sources, it might be a sign that your teenager is vaping.

Increased Thirst and Dry Mouth: Vaping can cause dehydration, leading to increased thirst and dry mouth. Keep an eye out for these signs, especially if they are sudden or unexplained.
Frequent Nosebleeds: Vaping can irritate the nasal passages and lead to nosebleeds. If your teenager experiences frequent nosebleeds without an apparent cause, it could be linked to vaping.

Changes in Behavior: Pay attention to any sudden changes in your teenager's behavior, such as increased irritability, mood swings, or a decline in academic performance. These could indicate nicotine withdrawal or other emotional struggles.

Unusual Accessories: Vaping devices come in various shapes and sizes, often resembling everyday objects like USB drives. Be vigilant about any unfamiliar items that your teenager might be carrying.

Sweet Smelling Clothes: Vaping liquids often have pleasant, sweet aromas. If your teenager's clothes or personal items have an unexpectedly sweet smell, it might be linked to vaping.

Caffeine Sensitivity: Nicotine and caffeine sensitivity can go hand in hand. If your teenager shows signs of increased caffeine sensitivity (which includes increased anxiousness), it could be due to nicotine consumption.

By staying vigilant, fostering open communication, and seeking professional help when needed, we can create a safer and healthier environment for our youth—one where they can thrive without the shadows of addiction looming over them.
