My friend Adam Hamilton recently urged us to stop fretting over all those who haven’t showed up in our churches, post-pandemic, and celebrate those who have. Ask them, “Why are you here?” and you may find fresh rationale for the church. Adam has a wonderful gift for focusing upon the positives of life in the body of Christ. Anybody can point to instances of broken promises in the church; resurrection induced hopefulness is required to see and to celebrate fidelity. Read here

Winter home struggles

A couple of winters ago, I found myself in the grips of a depressive episode the likes of which I had not experienced before. Winter has always been my toughest season to navigate emotionally and spiritually, but that particular winter was especially harsh. The pandemic and some family health matters aggravated that harshness, combined with a D.Min. project that unintentionally left me in a full-on spiritual, emotional, and vocational crisis. Read here

In my comic, I have the pastor presiding in front of the torn veil, with this infinity-DNA breaking through. When we partake in Holy Communion, we are not just remembering, or memorializing, the Last Supper of Jesus and the disciples. As Burton-Edwards states, we are re-membering, putting the Body of Christ back together through invitation, mutual repentance, mutual forgiveness, and the receiving of grace. And I am arguing that LGBTQ Christians are every bit a part of that Body as their straight siblings in Christ. Read here
